What is a DEIC Certificate?

The Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate (DEIC) is a form that is issued to a homeowner or landlord to confirm that any new electrical installation work is in accordance with the UK regulations. It is important to note that the electrical work is inspected by a qualified electrician and tested in accordance with BS7671.

The DEIC may look familiar to many electricians, as its broadly similar to the EIC (Electrical Installation Certificate) however the DEIC is a little simpler.

The Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate is used for new installations, or if the original installation has had additional circuits and needs to include the schedule of inspections and test results.

What is the difference between an EICR and a DEIC?

Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate (DEIC) is designed especially for electrics in a home, on the other hand, an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) must be obtained for every new electrical installation and might also be required for an alternation or addition to the installation.

What is EICR a certificate?

EICR is an electrical installation condition report.

This report can be used to document your assessment of the Electrical Installation within a Domestic, Commercial, or Industrial property. Compliant with BS 7671:2018 IET Wiring Regulations.

What does EICR stand for?

EICR stands for Electrical Installation Condition Report.

How long does an EICR last?

The British Standards Institute, recommends that commercial premises have an EICR at least every five years, but there are a number of factors that need to be considered such as how high-risk the environment is, the nature of the premises and other as this is just a guideline.
